Eduroam

Wireless network access is available at the conference venue and in several other places throughout Uppsala via Eduroam. The following map shows Eduroam access points. Eduroam is also available in the majority of train stations and airports and Sweden.

Sweden uses 230V/50Hz “Europlugs” (Type C and F on this chart).

Currency

The Swedish monetary unit is the Swedish krona (SEK), divided into 100 öre. In August 2014: Euro 1=SEK 9, USD 1=SEK 7, GBP 1=SEK 11,5. Major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. There are several currency exchange offices and cash dispensers at Stockholm Arlanda International Airport and in Uppsala.

Climate and Clothing

The average temperature in Uppsala in September is 7.1 °C (low) to 15 °C (high). The Celsius temperature scale was in fact named after Anders Celsius, a professor at Uppsala University. There are, on average, 14 days with some rainfall in September, with a total average amount of 58 mm for the month. For non-emergency medical issues there is a drop-in clinic:

  • Närakuten, Dragarbrunnsgatan 70, daily 07:00-23:00 (expect at least a 2-hour wait to see a doctor).

Pharmacies:

  • For opening hours and locations check Apoteksinfo
  • Apoteksamariten (Kålsängsgränd 10 C, across from the Närakuten clinic) has extended hours (daily 08:00-22:00)
  • 24-hour pharmacy: Apoteket C W Scheele, Klarabergsgatan 64, Stockholm
  • Many non-prescription drugs (e.g., aspirin, paracetamol) are available over the counter at most grocery stores

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in any public indoor establishment. This includes restaurants and bars as well as the conference venue.
